What Is Spray Chrome

A chemical process, BETWEEN TWO PAINTS.

Cosmichrome® uses a proprietary chemical and paint process to lay down a durable, high-gloss, brilliant chrome finish on nearly any surface...metal, plastic, wood, fiberglass, ceramic, and glass among them. Rather than a single coat of "chrome paint," it's an ultra-thin metal layer sandwiched between two proprietary Cosmichrome paints: the base coat underneath and a non-yellowing top coat on top for protection. Because the whole process happens in a paint booth instead of a plating tank, Cosmichrome can go on large or oddly shaped parts that would never fit into traditional chrome electroplating equipment...a more economical and versatile alternative for a wide range of jobs.

COSMICHROME APPLICATION

Plasma treatment, activator, and the chrome layer are sprayed in sequence using the Master System Pro™. Bonds to the base coat.

TOP COAT

Our non-yellowing top coat seals and, if needed, tints the finish in any of 20+ colors. Bonds to the metal and base coat. Cut and tape graphics without worry of peeling. OEM durability.

common Questions.

No — the metallic coating won't adhere to other primers, and other topcoats won't adhere to the metallic layer and can discolor it. You can paint above and below Cosmichrome, but the Cosmichrome layers themselves can't be substituted.

A paint booth— to keep dust out of the coating and maintain a proper working environment.

If you bake it it takes about 4.5 hours but baking is not required. At normal room temperature the process takes about 24 hours.

No — the 350°F maximum temperature is exceeded by exhaust components, and even electroplated chrome discolors on parts that run this hot.

Not necessarily — plenty of successful users started with little painting background. Everyone, experienced painters included, has to learn the plating side of the process from scratch.

No — Cosmichrome is manufactured by Cosmichrome, Inc. Every component is made in-house, not relabeled from another supplier. Spray Chrome Products are not the same.
