BCL-Basecoat Grey Instructions
Mix ratios
BCL basecoat 100 grams
V-10 catalyst 30 grams
Reducer- None needed
Mix for 2 min and spray.
Use a scale to measure the paints. Do not use ratios on mixing cups.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL PARTS MUST BE PREPAIRED PRIOR TO APPLIYING THE COSMICHROME BCL BASECOAT. PARTS MUST BE SEALED AND WET SANDED WITH MIN 800 GRIT SAND PAPERS. BCL BASECOAT WILL NOT COVER OR HIDE ROUGH IMPERFECTIONS ON THE SUBSTRATE.
Recommended primers: either urethane or epoxy. They must be catalyzed and they must be completly dry before applying base coat.
Spray application
Adjust the spray gun as follows
29-35 PSI at the gun, 2 bars ( lower pressures will cause the paint to dry slower so be careful)
Wide open fan needle open 1 1/2 to 2 turns
Spray the substrate one medium wet film in a cris cross pattern and let stand for 10 min.
Spray the second coat after 10 min have expired. Once again wet cost cris cross.
Once you are satisfied with you application allow 30 min to dry naturally before introducing to a bake cycle.
BAKING BCL BASECOAT
It is critical that the base coat is completely and propely dried! When in doubt such as on large or heavy parts or parts with heavy coats of base coat, dry it longer. It is not possible to over dry the BCL Gray base coat but that black base coat can be over dried if you abuse the drying instructions.
If you have applied a primer or other paint on a part first that paint must be completely cured before applying our base coat. If the base coat is wet or a primer beneath the base coat are wet then the final finish can discolor or appear foggy.
Allow primer parts to bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes at 140 F / 60 C
Longer dry times are fine if your part is large or has a lot of paint.
Higher temperatures can reduce baking time.
Allow parts to cool down to room temp.
(call for higher temperature baking instructions.
Prepare area for metalizing.
NATURAL AIR DRY FOR BCL BASECOAT
Once you have finished applying your basecoat 2 wet coat or 3 coats. Let stand in a dust free environment (closed room) to dry 12 – 15 hours minimum at room temp. Our Base coat can't be over dried so there is nothing to worry about drying parts longer. Even if you bake the part and want to wait until the next day or over the weekend to plate there will still be excellent adhesion. We have accidentally baked parts at 320ºF for 1 hour and the adhesion was still excellent. The base coat discolored and turned brown and it did not damage the coating.
Please note if you have sprayed more then 3 coats of base coatallow more dry time 15-18 hours minimum. Minimum!
Prepare area for metalizing.
Plating Application
• The faster the plating is applied the brighter and less likely gold appearing plating will result. Parts should be held so the plating solutions run off quickly to prevent staining.
• Always start from the bottom when plating and move upwards. If you have to plate around and object on all sides you must start at the bottom and move up around the entire piece. Not one side at a time.
• The plating chemicals must be at least 72ºF or 22ºC to perform properly. Cold chemicals are slow and will result in yellowish looking plating.
•The Cosmichrome™ coating should be force dried for 20 to 30 minutes at 95ºF to 100ºF.
Humid climates may require the warmer temperature to adequately dry the metal coating. A hair dryer or small fan with a heating element can help dry the moisture out of the plating for those in humid weather conditions. Speed Seal™ will also help force moisture from the plating. Setting the plated parts down on a table and leaving them without heat or air is not proper drying and may result in water vapor trapped in the topcoat.
VU-12 TOPCOAT Instructions
VU-12 Topcoat is a special blend that has been formulated just for the Cosmichrome application.
VU-12 is an acrylic urethane topcoat that will give a much harder finish then our previous topcoats as well as excellent adhesion.
Using this new topcoat, you will experience a simple application over the metalized surface as well as a high gloss finish that will cure fast and hard in a shorter period of time. It even adheres to stainless steel, glass and chrome.
Parts can be sanded two hours after application if needed.
VU-12 is Excellent as a final clear coat for outdoor parts, DO NOT apply any other clear topcoats over VU-12 unless the VU-10 has dried for at least 2 days.
Excellent UV capabilities, better then most after-market clear topcoats on the market.
VU-12 has a richer gloss and feel once fully cured.
VU-12 applies wet and VERY easy to lay down with no orange peel.
MIXING RATIOS
VU-12 TOPCOAT 100 Grams
V-12 CATALYST 20 Grams
REDUCER None
Mix and wait for 10 minutes before spraying.
Please note that the metalized part MUST be dry and free from any moisture and water, we suggest that you bake at low temperature 95º to 100ºF / 35 C for 45 to minutes before you spray the topcoat. Any moisture and humidity between the metal and the clearcoat can result in very small moisture bubbles in the topcoat.
SPRAY APPLICATION
Adjust the spray gun as follows
PSI 29 at the gun, 2 bars
Wide open fan
Needle valve open 1 turn.
(Please note that this will vary on the object size)
Spray the metalized piece with one wet film in a criss-cross pattern to achieve an even thickness. Its better to apply less material on the first coat than too much.
Apply the second coat after 10 min have expired, leaving the part with a nice uniform wet shine and even color.
If you desire to spray a third coat you can do so after 10 min between coats.
Once satisfied with your application, allow the Topcoat to stand for 30 min before introducing a bake cycle. Do not bake above 105º F. After the part dries a few days higher temperatures are fine.
BAKING VU-12 TOPCOAT
Baking the topcoat will accelerate the total hardness.
Allow top coated parts to baked for at least 1 hour at 100º F 40º C.
Don’t be alarmed if your bake 1 hour is complete and the parts are still soft, this is normal, once cooled down you will have less tackiness if not any at all.
Ship objects that have been complete with the Cosmichrome process 24 hours after the topcoat has been applied.
Natural air dry for VU-12 topcoat
Once you have applied the two coats of topcoat allow for air circulation to be present in the environment for 30 min. Let the part stand for 2 to 3 hours to dry for light handling.
Do not use the sun to acelerate drying.
Please note that if you apply more than 3 coats of topcoat, allow more dry time before handling parts shipping or installing.

See
why so many companies have switched from competing
Spray-on Chrome systems to Cosmichrome™. Don't waste another
day with another product. Call!
Horror
stories we've seen from the competition:
1.
Supplying expired activator concentrate (looks yellow/orange instead
of clear/white)
2.
Substituting wrong catalysts.
3.
Leave customers on hold forever waiting for tech support.( they
have caller ID so they won't pick up your call once they have
your money.
4.
Incorrect drying instructions. ( conceals 48-72 hour dry times
compared to Cosmichrome's 1 hour to 24 hour dry time)
5.
Incorrect spraying methods.
6.
Streaking and staining chemicals.
7.
Sell spray guns that won't work for this process.
8.
Sell coatings with absolutely no intra-coating adhesion. Cosmichrome™ silver won't even wipe off the primer its adhesion is so good!
Competing products have such poor adhesion the air gun often blows
the silver off the primer.
9.
One company had to call the police to get his system after waiting
several months after payment !
10.
Selling ceramic tiles as samples for $100.00! If you have some
of those tiles, try a cross hatch adhesion test and watch their
product peel right off.
